Shower Power
Water problematics, proposing solutions using the basic construction unit.
Showerpower is a collaborative research commissioned by SUEZ-Aigües de Barcelona to explore second life opportunities for the thousands of linear meters of obsolete water pipes that remain underground once they finish their useful life. It was initiated by a group of students from Elisava’s product engineering aera that developed a basic costruction unit, a wireframe cube 1mx1m made of pvc water pipes.
MEATS research consisted in identifying fileds of action related with water problematics, proposing solutions using the basic construction unit and developing protypes.
We identified five fields of action: access to water in refugee camps or informal urban settlements, rescue units in recurrently flooded areas, intensive urban agriculture, pedagogy related with waste caused by bottled water and combating the heath island in urban contexts.
For each of these fields, a prototype was developed and tested in different scenarios. The results of the research where presented to Aigües the Breclona Innovation managers in an exhibition at Elisava’s Agora
